Nokia just unveiled its newest smartphone, the Nokia N9, which it bills as the world’s first pure touch smartphone, powered by Meego.

Introduced by Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia’s SVP of design, during the Nokia Connection 2011 in Singapore, the N9 aims to cover the most important things people look for in a smartphone: a functional user interface, a unique industrial design, and a robust platform that allows for easy software development.

The N9 is equipped with a pure-glass interface with only touch as a control mechanism, and has revamped the home screen in light of the fact that making calls is no longer one of the most frequent uses of smartphones.

In terms of design, the Nokia N9 is housed in a unibody enclosure made of polycarbonate material and a 3.9 inch curved glass AMOLED display. It is free of physical buttons, which is a long way from the previously leaked qwerty-slider.

Dropbox Left User Accounts Unlocked for 4 Hours Sunday

At a time when hackers are on a tear looting information willy-nilly from insecure sites on the Web, Dropbox did the unthinkable Sunday — it allowed anyone in the world to access any one of its 25 million customers’ online storage lockers — simply by typing in any password.

Dropbox, one of the most popular ways to share and sync files online, says the accounts became unlocked at 1:54pm Pacific time Sunday when a programming change introduced a bug. The company closed the hole a little less than 4 hours later.

Discrediting VoIP: The Case of Skype and Other Major Players « Alexey Zimarev

Voice communications have undoubtedly become an integral part of most businesses, and VoIP technology has evolved considerably since it was first launched in the market in the 1980s. However, somewhere down-the-line the term “VoIP” began to be associated with poor voice quality and unreliable low cost providers. While this may not be the case with VoIP solutions across the board, the overall perception has encouraged some major players to disassociate themselves from the term, including Skype.

The document as we know it — static and one-sided — has disappeared.

Documents today are no longer stand-still and no longer offer only one view. The old model doesn’t work for today’s social and always-connected business. Business communication has evolved to become more fluid, dynamic and collaborative and is now an integral part of business processes. And the concept of a document (whether that be text, spreadsheet, presentation or a hybrid approach) is still one of the critical outputs of many businesses.

The key is to help organizations break free of the outdated model, where the document is static, monolithic and tangential, to the more natural collaborative communication flow. And, more importantly, businesses across the world are looking for options to break free from huge fees and upgrade charges just to be able to access and edit content created and owned by that organization.

Social CRM: A Reality Check – Part 1

Social CRM: A Reality Check

CRM systems, when introduced, were intended to facilitate different operational activities related to identifying, acquiring and retaining customers. Some typical CRM tasks include tracking calls from customers, organizing mails and reporting sales figures to the management.

Today, the Internet explosion has transformed the meaning of customer relations. The advent of social media has empowered the customers to voice their opinions and get heard by millions.
